As such, our performance medicine services cover every aspect of the athletic health continuum. From immediate injury assessment and rehabilitation by our Licensed Athletic Trainers, to our Performance Medicine physicians, we work together in a seamless process to give our clients the best, most thorough and efficient treatment possible.

  • Todd Arnold, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Arnold is a sports performance physician with over a decade of experience caring for athletes of all levels from scholastic to professional. He is a team physician for the Indianapolis Indians, USA Synchronized Swimming and Carmel United Soccer Club. He has extensive training through the Titleist Performance Institute in the biomechanics of the golf swing, golf fitness and health care related to the golfer, and is the co-creator of Prescription Golf & Fitness™.
  • David M. Harsha, MD (Medical Director) (bio)
  • The Medical Director for St.Vincent Sports Performance, Dr. Harsha is a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Harsha serves as team physician for the Indiana Fever, the Indiana Ice and Pike High School. He is a consulting team physician for USA Diving and USA Gymnastics. His special interests include Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Vocal Cord Dysfunction and medical education.
  • Joel M. Kary, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Kary is a team physician for Butler University, Lawrence North High School, Indiana Invaders Track Club, and a consultant physician for USA Track and Field. As a former collegiate distance runner, he enjoys working with runners and endurance athletes. He’s a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine with a special focus in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.
  • Patrick Kersey, MD (bio)
  • A former all-state high school athlete, Dr. Kersey remains involved in sports by serving as the team physician for the Indianapolis Colts and Target/Chip Ganassi Racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series®. He’s a member of the Governor’s Council for Fitness and Sports, NFL Physician Society, Sports Concussion Management, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Kersey is the co-creator of Prescription Golf & Fitness™, a golf-specific workout program designed to improve a golfer’s swing.
  • Craig Veatch, MD (bio)
  • Craig Veatch is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He received his doctor of medicine degree from Indiana University. After graduating from the Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, he completed a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Central Indiana Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Veatch is trained in adult medicine as well as the non-operative care of athletic and musculoskeletal injuries, sports nutrition, exercise fitness and prescription.
  • Tim Von Fange, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Von Fange has joined the St.Vincent Medical Staff as a sports medicine physician. A graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Von Fange completed his family medicine residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, NC. He comes to St.Vincent from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he was associate director of their Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, and assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine.   • Steven K. Ahlfeld, MD
  • James Bicos, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Bicos concentrates his practice on the specialized needs of athletes of all ages. He has received extensive training in shoulder arthroplasty and patella-femoral instability, with a focus on the treatment of complex shoulder pathology (shoulder dislocations, multi-directional instability, rotator cuff tears) and cartilage restoration techniques of the knee. Dr. Bicos is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and he is the consulting physician for our USA Olympic Gymnastics team.
  • Robert T. Clayton, MD (bio)
  • An Indianapolis native, Dr. Clayton earned his undergraduate degree at Indiana University in Bloomington. He is a graduate of Indiana University Medical School. Dr. Clayton completed his internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in 1974, and his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in 1977.

  • Timothy A. Hupfer (bio)
  • Dr. Hupfer graduated from Indiana University, where he was Phi Beta Kappa, in 1980. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1984. Dr. Hupfer completed an internship in General Surgery at Metropolitan Northwest Detroit Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed fellowships in Adult Reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Orthopaedic Trauma in Bern, Switzerland.

    Dr. Hupfer serves as the team physician for the Indiana Pacers and is a member of the NBA Team Physicians Society. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
  • Frank Johnson, Jr., MD
  • Michael Kaveney, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Kaveney has been certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He specializes in sports medicine and knee injuries. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Indiana Orthopedic Society, the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association, and is a member of the St.Vincent Center for Joint Replacement.
  • Corey Kendall, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Kendall, a Washington, Indiana native, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana in 1997. At USI, he was awarded a Presidential scholarship and the Trustee’s Distinguished Merit award. He earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2001. Upon graduation, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

    Dr. Kendall completed his internship in 2002 and Orthopaedic Surgery residency in 2006 at the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center and the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Cartilage Reconstruction at the internationally recognized Atlanta Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Atlanta, Georgia in 2007. He was also an associate team physician for the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Thrashers in 2006-2007.

    Dr. Kendall has given several presentations at both state and national meetings. He has also published research articles in both the United States and in Italy. He is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
  • Stephen Kollias, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Kollias graduated cum laude from Butler University in Indianapolis in 1985, where he made the first-team NCAA/ GTE Academic All America Football Team as a defensive end. He won the Hilton U. Brown Award for Outstanding Student Athlete. Dr. Kollias attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1989. He completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis in 1994 and a fellowship in Shoulder, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Van Nuys, California in 1995.

    Dr. Kollias is currently team physician for Butler University, Marian University, Zionsville High School and the Indiana Fever. He has provided sports medicine coverage in Indianapolis for many local and international events.
  • Sanford S. Kunkel, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Kunkel graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University in 1978. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1982.

    Dr. Kunkel completed a categorical year in orthopaedic surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1983. He completed his residency at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids in 1987. He completed fellowships in sports medicine at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1987 and shoulder surgery at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario in 1988.

    Dr. Kunkel is a consultant for Brebeuf Preparatory School and is an independent examiner for the NFL. He has made many presentations to professional groups and published numerous articles in medical journals.

    Dr. Kunkel is clinical lecturer at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the National Basketball Association Team Physician Society and other medical organizations. He served as the team physician for the Indiana Pacers from 1988 to 2006 and the Indiana Fever from 2004 to 2006. Dr. Kunkel also served as the president of the NBA Team Physicians Society.
  • Scott A. Lintner, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Lintner graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, where he was Phi Beta Kappa, in 1984. He attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois and graduated with high institutional honors in 1989. Dr. Lintner completed his internship and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis in 1994 and a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina in 1995.

    Dr. Lintner’s work has been published in leading professional journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the American Journal of Orthopaedics. He has given numerous local, national, and international presentations to professional organizations. Dr. Lintner serves as the team physician for the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever and is also the team physician for Zionsville High School.

    DDr. Lintner’s professional associations include the American Medical Association and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

    Dr. Lintner is also a member of the NBA Team Physician Society and and NFL Physician consultant.
  • Brian Ludwig, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Ludwig received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University of Science and Technology with a minor in Biology in 2000. He then matriculated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in 2004.

    After medical school, Dr. Ludwig completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He served as the administrative chief resident during his last year of residency. In 2010, he completed the prestigious American Sports Medicine Institute Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship under the direction of Dr. James Andrews, Dr. William Clancy, Dr. E. Lyle Cain and Dr. Jeffrey Dugas. While at ASMI, he served as the assistant team physician for Jacksonville State University, Tarrant High School and the Birmingham Barons AA baseball team. He also assisted in the care of numerous high school, collegiate and professional athletes.

    Dr. Ludwig is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Program.
  • Norman Mindrebo, MD
  • Joseph C. Randolph, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Randolph is the past-president of OrthoIndy. He graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1967 and Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1970. Dr. Randolph completed an internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1971 and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Indiana University Hospitals in 1974.

    Dr. Randolph is the team physician for the Indiana Ice Hockey Team and has consulted for Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), the U.S. Auto Club and the U.S. Rowing Association. He is the past president of the Indiana Orthopaedic Society and was on the Board of Councilors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons from 2001 to 2007. Dr. Randolph is on the board of directors for the Indiana Orthopaedic Society. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, the International Arthroscopy Society and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
  • Jonathan B. Shook, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Jonathan Shook graduated with distinction from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana in 1998. In 2002, he received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. During medical school, he was elected to the prestigious medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, based on his high academic achievement.

    In 2007, Dr. Shook completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. During his residency he received several awards, including: Innovations in Orthopaedics Award, Certificate of Excellence in Research and the Charles M. Schwartz Traveling Fellow Award. He completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals in 2008.

    Dr. Shook is a member the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Indiana Orthopaedic Society.

    Dr. Shook is currently head team physician for Westfield High School and a part of the medical team for the Indianapolis Indians and the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. He was the official orthopaedic consultant for the 2010 NCAA Final Four Tournament. Dr. Shook has served as a team physician at the University of Chicago. He was also a member of the medical team involved in the treatment of the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL.

    Dr. Shook’s work has been published in professional journals, including: Orthopaedics, Journal of the American Medical Association, and Loyola University Chicago, Orthopaedic Journal.
  • Jeff Soldatis, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Soldatis did his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire graduating in 1983. He attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors in 1987.

    Dr. Soldatis completed his internship in General Surgery at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in 1988, and then he went on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University/ University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1992. He completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1995.

    Dr. Soldatis has authored articles published in the American Journal of Knee Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine and the American Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He serves as a team physician for area high schools and professional teams.
  • Michael Thieken, MD (bio)
  • Dr. Michael Thieken graduated magna cum laude from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana in 1997. In 1999, he received his master’s degree from Indiana University, Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Thieken received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002.

    He completed his Surgical internship in 2003 and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency in 2007 from Fort Wayne Medical Education Program, Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2008, Dr. Thieken completed an Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship at New Mexico Orthopaedics in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

    Dr. Thieken has been a member of medical teams, taking care of a number of athletic teams at the high school, college and professional level. He is currently the orthopaedic consultant for the DePauw University and Hamilton Heights High School Athletic teams.

    Dr. Thieken is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
